no-phone meals

No one in the world is more important to me than Wifey.

Though she is not pursuing minimalism with me, but likes to come along for the ride and even suggest things we can do to make our lives slower.

One of the ideas she had came from the best-selling book 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, and it has been one of the most effective and valuable changes to our lifestyle. It was to make our meal times phone-free.

Realizing we were checking our social media (me) or texting (her) and not focusing enough on each other, we agreed to put the phones away not just sometimes, but every single time we eat together.

From a quick bit at a coffee shop to a fancy dinner at home, we exit the outside world and share that time with just each other.

The habit has been wonderful. Instead of giving over part of our fragmented attention to each other, we are entirely in the moment for that time.

It is a nice reminder of that connection we have to not bring digital people into our time.

Texts and tweets can wait for later.
